Who Makes a Good Candidate?
If you have prominent hollows or bags under your eyes, drooping eyelids, wrinkles in your upper eyelid area, extra skin on the lower eyelid, or sagging eyebrows that are obstructing vision, then Blepharoplasty may be a good option for you.
Types of Blepharoplasty Procedures
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper Eyelid Surgery, or Upper Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. If a droopy upper eyelid, or ptosis, is blocking your visual field, lifting them can improve your vision. The procedure can also reduce puffiness and correct wrinkles in the upper lid area.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower Eyelid Surgery, or Lower Blepharoplasty corrects bags and puffiness under the eyes by removing excess fat and skin. It can also help to reduce wrinkles in the lower lid area. The procedure is often combined with Upper Eyelid Surgery for a more comprehensive eye rejuvenation.
What Should You Expect From a Blepharoplasty Procedure?
Before your procedure, you and your surgeon will discuss any past or current conditions. This includes dry eyes, glaucoma, allergies, circulatory problems, thyroid problems, and diabetes. The Blepharoplasty procedure typically takes 1-2 hours to complete and is usually performed under local anesthesia, with or without sedation. During the procedure, your plastic surgeon will make a small incision in the upper or lower eyelid skin and carefully remove any excess fat and skin. The incisions are then sutured closed.
