Achieve Younger-Looking Skin with a Facelift

As the average lifespan rises, many women and men discover that they physically and mentally appear to be older than they are. A Facelift is one of the most common cosmetic procedures to turn that around. While the procedure can be tailored to your goals and needs, Facelifts are often performed to lessen mid-cheek creases, raise sagging cheeks, and better define the jaw and necklines. Facelifts can also be paired with neck liposuction to eliminate a double chin.

Benefits of a facelift

  • A Facelift provides many benefits:
  • Creates a more youthful appearance
  • Removes loose skin from the mid and lower face
  • Reduces jowls, creases, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • Enhances facial skin, contours, structure, and elasticity
  • Tightens and redefines neck area

Who Makes a Good Candidate?

In general, a Facelift is best suited for individuals over the age of 40 who are looking to reduce signs of aging in the face and neck area. Additionally, candidates should be in good overall health and not have any major medical conditions that would put them at risk for complications.

Types of Facelift Procedures

There are many different types of Facial cosmetic procedures, including:

  • Mini Facelift

The Mini Facelift is a relatively quick and modified version of the procedure with a smaller incision site and less repositioning of underlying facial tissue. Recovery time for this type of procedure is significantly shorter than for traditional Facelifts.

  • Neck Lift

A Neck Lift, also known as a Bottom Facelift, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the signs of aging in the neck. It entails removing skin from the neck up and behind the ears as part of the Facelift procedure.

  • Brow Lift

A Brow Lift, also known as an Upper Facelift, is a procedure that can help to reduce the signs of aging in the mid-face, forehead, hairline, and brow areas. During a Brow Lift, reconstruction of the lower scalp lifts and tightens the forehead.

THE PROCESS:

What Should You Expect From This Treatment?

Dr. Bashore will examine your face during your initial visit and go through your goals. General anesthesia is given on the day of your Facelift operation, combined with local anesthetic for post-operative comfort. The procedure will involve the removal of extra facial fat as well as the shaping and redraping of the facial skin to cover the newly realigned contours. Extra skin is removed, and the wound is then closed with sutures.

  • Consultation with Dr. Bashore! Develop a customized treatment plan to achieve your aesthetic goals.

  • Schedule Your Surgery! You have a date, now you will get bloodwork and clearance from your PCP if needed.

  • Surgery Day! Our OR team will focus on making this day as easy and comfortable as possible. You are our priority!

  • Recovery Begins! We will see you the very next day and then multiple times following your surgery to ensure you are healing well.

Everything You Need to Know About Recovery

After surgery, you can expect some bruising, swelling, and redness as your body heals. Your plastic surgeon will provide postoperative instructions. This may include pain medication, minimal physical activity, and sleeping in an elevated position for a few days. It is important to follow these instructions to ensure a successful recovery and optimal results.

Recovery time after a Facelift can vary depending on the individual, but most people return to their normal daily activities within 2-4 weeks. You will have several follow-up appointments after surgery to ensure the skin heals properly. Additionally, we will arrange a consultation with our medical esthetician, who will recommend high-quality skincare products to maintain results after surgery and perform lymphatic massages to speed up the healing process.

Commonly Asked Questions
About Facelift Treatments

  • As with any surgical procedure, there are possible risks and side effects associated with a Facelift such as facial nerve injury, infection, and scarring. Common side effects of a Facelift include swelling, bruising, numbness, temporary facial nerve injury, infection, and scarring. At BCSG we follow our surgical patients as needed for up to a year after their surgery to ensure tissue remodeling and scar healing are optimized. We have several modalities available from skincare, massage, steroid injections, and laser treatments to ensure exceptional results following your surgery

  • A Facelift is permanent in the sense that you will always look younger than you would have without surgery. However, the extent of the correction and how long it lasts differs from person to person.

  • Facelifts are typically not painful procedures, as they are performed under general anesthesia. Most patients report experiencing some degree of discomfort during recovery specifically around their ears, but this can usually be managed with pain medications prescribed by your plastic surgeon. With any surgery, swelling and manipulation of the tissue create some expected post-operative discomfort that can be managed with cooling therapies, compression, elevation, and pain medications prescribed by your plastic surgeon.

  • In our opinion, there is no optimal age for a Facelift. Patients typically contact us when they are prepared for a change. individuals who are in their early 40s and individuals who are in their 80s both request Facelifts. The most crucial step is figuring out what issue you want to resolve.

  • It is important to avoid any strenuous activity or exercise for two to four weeks after a Facelift to allow for proper healing. You should also avoid direct sun exposure and use sun protection during this time. Additionally, do not take aspirin or ibuprofen for one to two days after surgery, as this can increase bleeding. Be sure to follow all instructions provided by Dr. Bashore for optimal healing and results.
