Bothered by a bump, drooping tip, or the shape of your nostrils? A nose reshaping — or Rhinoplasty — can give you the perfect nose you’ve been dreaming of!

Our board-certified plastic surgeon offers personalized consultations and expert care to help you achieve your ideal look.

Rhinoplasty Can Do More Than Just Change Your Look

A nose job is a form of plastic surgery that is done to reduce or increase the size and width of your nose, remove bumps or humps in the bridge, alter nostril shape and size, refine the nasal tip, and correct airways and structural defects. The goals of nose surgery may include improving the physical appearance of the nose, improving breathing, or both.

Benefits of rhinoplasty

  • A Rhinoplasty provides many benefits:
  • Enhances the appearance of the nose shape, size, and symmetry
  • Improves the function of the nose
  • Provides better airflow and reduces breathing problems
  • Increases self-esteem and confidence
  • Corrects problems associated with a deviated septum and any other deformities

Who Makes a Good Candidate?

  • A Rhinoplasty is a great option for anyone who desires to:
  • Improve the appearance or functional aspects of their nose
  • Repair a deviated septum that’s causing trouble breathing
  • Correct a nose deformity caused by an injury or birth defect

Types of Rhinoplasty Procedures

There are many different types of rhinoplasty procedures, including:

  • Open Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty is the most commonly performed type of nose surgery. During this procedure, a small incision is made across the columella (the bridge between the nostrils). This allows for greater access to the interior structures of the nose and helps create more accurate results.

  • Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed Rhinoplasty is a slightly less invasive version of Open Rhinoplasty. There are no external incisions made during this technique and the surgeon makes all corrections internally. This type of procedure may be suitable if you want to make minor adjustments to your nose without any visible scarring.

THE PROCESS:

What Should You Expect From Rhinoplasty Surgery?

At BCSG, we are AAAASF certified and our operating room is located right in our office, so you don’t have to go offsite to a surgery center. The Rhinoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. It typically takes one to two hours to complete the procedure, and you are able to go home the same day. During the procedure, incisions will be made at the base of the nose and the plastic surgeon will readjust the nasal bone and cartilage. Splints will be put inside your nose during surgery to ensure proper healing.

  • Consultation

  • Surgery Day

  • 1st day after surgery your internal splint comes out. You will have swelling and likely bruising.

  • 1 week after surgery your sutures come out and your external splint comes off.

After surgery, you will have a bandage over your nose that should be kept on for at least one week. The recovery period can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and your individual healing ability. In general, you should allow for at least one week of recovery time before returning to work or school. During this time, it is important to use a cold compress and to take special care when washing and moisturizing the nose area to avoid any complications.

for Rhinoplasty?

Commonly Asked Questions About Rhinoplasty

  • Like any surgery, there are potential risks and side effects. The most common side effects include:

    • Infection
    • Swelling
    • Numbness
    • Asymmetry
    • Pain
    • Bleeding
    • Bruising.

Other possible side effects include permanent scarring, a change in sensation or skin color, an irregular shape of the nose, or a collapsed nostril. However these potential effects are far less common.

  • Avoid strenuous activity, bending, heavy lifting, and exercise for at least two weeks after surgery. Avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen during the initial healing phase. Avoid smoking and alcohol during recovery.

  • It is important to take special care of your nose for several months after Rhinoplasty surgery. You should avoid any trauma or impact to the nose for at least two months. Swelling can persist for up to a year, so the final results may not be apparent for 12 months or more. You should follow up with your surgeon as directed to monitor healing and results.

  • Whether it’s a Functional Rhinoplasty or a Cosmetic Rhinoplasty, it’s still a surgical procedure and therefore does come with risks. While Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia and has a relatively quick recovery period, it is important to understand there are potential complications associated with any type of surgery. You should discuss the risks with your surgeon before proceeding with the procedure.

  • When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, Rhinoplasty results can age very well. The key is to create natural-looking changes that are in harmony with a person’s facial features. Subtle adjustments to improve the overall balance and proportion of the nose tend to withstand the test of time better than drastic changes. The aging process can also affect the appearance of the nose over time, but Rhinoplasty should aim to create results that will last for many years.

  • Important questions to ask during your consultation include the surgeon’s experience with Rhinoplasty, their understanding of your desired results, what type of anesthesia will be used, and whether there are any potential risks or complications associated with the procedure. Additionally, you should ask about recovery time, aftercare instructions, and what follow-up visits may be necessary to ensure proper healing.

Facelift

A Facelift, or Rhytidectomy, is a reconstructive surgery that can help reduce the signs of aging in your face and neck, such as fine lines, frown lines, and creases. Through incisions made along the hairline, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the underlying muscles are tightened. This procedure aims to give you a more youthful-looking appearance by smoothing wrinkles and sagging jowls.

Mini Facelift

A Mini Facelift, also known as a Short Scar Facelift, is similar to a traditional Facelift but with fewer incisions. This procedure targets the lower third of the face and neck, making it an ideal choice if you want to reduce wrinkles around the mouth and minimize jowls.

Neck Lift

A Neck Lift, or lower Rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that can help reduce double-chin, sagging, and looseness of the skin in the neck area. Through incisions made along the hairline, excess fat and tissue are removed and underlying muscles are tightened to give you a smoother, more contoured jawline.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or Eyelid Surgery, is a surgical procedure that can help reduce crow’s feet, wrinkles, and sagging skin in the eye area. Through small incisions made along the eyelids, excess fat and tissue are removed.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery is done to reduce sagging and wrinkled skin in the upper eyelids. Through small incisions made along the eyelids, excess fat and tissue are removed and underlying muscles are tightened to give you a more alert and refreshed look.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower Eyelid Surgery is done to reduce sagging and wrinkles in the lower eyelids. Through small incisions made along the eyelids, excess fat and tissue are removed and underlying muscles are tightened to give you a more youthful-looking appearance.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or Ear Surgery, is a surgical procedure used to improve the shape and size of your ears. Through incisions made behind the ear folds, cartilage can be reshaped, and/or excess skin may be removed. The goal of this procedure is to give you a more natural, proportionate appearance.

Chin/Neck Liposuction

Submental Liposuction is a surgical procedure to reduce unwanted fat deposits in the face. Through small incisions made near the target treatment area, excess fat is removed and underlying muscles are tightened. The goal of this procedure is to give you a more contoured look.

Skin Cancer Excision and Reconstruction

Skin Cancer Excision and Reconstruction is a surgical procedure used to remove cancerous growths from the skin, specifically located in the face. Through incisions made near the affected area, the abnormal tissue is removed and underlying muscles are tightened where necessary. The goal of this procedure is to help you achieve natural-looking results.
